American Councils administers the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program, a scholarship opportunity funded by the U.S. Department of State. Now in its 29th year and expanding to new geographies, FLEX provides outstanding, competitively selected secondary school students with a life-changing opportunity to spend a year living with a U.S. host family and attending a U.S. high school, in addition to participating in a variety of activities to learn about U.S. culture and share their own. The Bucharest-based Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing various office programs developed in partnership with the US Embassy or other partners, as well as supporting the implementation of the FLEX program.. This position reports to the Country Representative in Bucharest and works in conjunction with program managers in Washington DC and the US Embassy in Romania. The position is a limited-term, full-time (8hours/day, 5 days/week) position beginning on February 1st, 2022 through June 30th, 2022, with the possibility of extension. All eligible candidates must live in Bucharest, as this is an office-based position, that can occasionally be combined with remote working.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implementing, as Program Coordinator, a minimum of 1 local program, as instructed by Country Representative;
  • Support, as program assistant, the implementation of FLEX program in Romania;
  • Support Country Representative and other Program Coordinators in coordinating logistics for other office programs;
  • Promote office programs in Romania by developing an advertising campaign, press releases, working with traditional and virtual media, mass mailings, volunteers coordinating etc.;
  • Make public presentations, including audio and video interviews, both in capital city and outside;
  • Collect and track data, forms and files, based on internal procedures;
  • Recruit participants for local projects and for FLEX, as instructed by Country Representative;
  • Travel around Romania to conduct presentations or attend meetings, if requested by any of the programs;
  • Process all financial payments regarding the projects in a timely manner, as advised by the office accountant;
  • Contact potential local funders, in order to expand the programs in our portfolio;
  • Prepare projects reports for funders, based on procedures and funders requests;
  • Maintain communication with project partners and funders;
  • Other tasks regarding administrative aspects of office programs;

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field;
  • Experience in project and event management;
  • Experience in working with children, teenagers and teachers;
  • Native Romanian, Fluent in English (written & spoken);
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills;
  • Familiar with the Microsoft Office package;
  • Proven experience in budget and project management;
  • Excellent attention to details;
  • Flexibility to occasionally work on weekends and evenings;
  • Flexibility to travel around the country or outside the country if requested;
  • Outstanding time management, team work spirit, organization and planning skills;
  • Experience regarding U.S or international programs will be a plus;
  • Experience in implementing summer camp program types will be a plus;
